Overview

Now, at the end of 2008 and after 5 years of art school, the old website does not any more fit the way that I look at photography and thus that website did not represent me, as a photographer any longer. Indeed, this view, as well as the techniques employed has profoundly changed. In the first place, my pictures gained a dynamic content they did not have before. As for the form and techniques employed, I have nearly exclusively reverted back to the use of black and white film followed by intensive darkroom work in order to create the final picture. These were the techniques used by the old masters and are, in my opinion, not overtaken by the modernisms, digital and colour photography, for its artistic expression. Notwithstanding the statement just made, digital and colour photography has an important place in the total photographic landscape, and I use it for special applications. In this website, all pictures shown are generated using black and white film followed by printing on real photographic paper in the dark room.

The one aspect that has not changed from the past is my interest in people. Most of the pictures in this website deal with people in one-way or another. Since my family is closest to me and always available, the largest number is dedicated to them. However I also love making formal portraits mainly because of the opportunity for human contacts. Most interesting are the family portraits I made in nursing homes. For these, I feel, I have also contributed in one small manner to lift the inherent loneliness these people must feel.

At this juncture I would like to let you know that in case you would like me to take your portrait, you should not hesitate to let me know. My hobby is photography, and I am always looking for new subjects, so, you would do me a favour being that subject.

Finally I like to wish you a pleasant trip through this website.

Some friends and other people I like

The title says it all. This is a compilation of pictures worth publishing but not necessarily constituting a coherent series. The only thing in common is that here are pictures from people I like.

Feike Boschma

Feike Boschma is a remarkable man. He is over 80 years old and still performs (sometimes) with his puppet show. Only his show is meant for adults. He has no theatre proper, a bench will do or simply a chair or just nothing. He makes all puppets himself out of simple material and most is left to the immagination: a stick and a straw hat will stand for a man. My sister in law knows Feike very well and they had a joint performance in late 2008 in Amsterdam. Feike with a puppet show and my sister in law integrated her peintings in the show. My brother was responsible for the lighting and the music. I made the pictures.

Malaysia

We have lived in Malaysia between 1985 and 1991 and loved it. I often said that Malaysia was the next best place after paradise. After 1991 we returned about once per year and sometimes more often for a visit and we plan to stay for longer periods soon. Most people will take pictures from nice surroundings and impressive structures. I prefer to show the simple dayly life.
